Winter Nights Cauldron

Winter is upon us. The leaves have fallen, the branches bare, and it looks as though death has spread it dark, quiet cloak of comfort across the lands. The Goddess beckons to all things to come close and steep themselves in Her transformative waters. She collects us and pull us into Her bosom for transformation. This is the time of year where we slow down and nestle in to do our inner work.

The cauldron does the work of and with the Goddess. It is Her womb; its waters are the creatrix; it is the place from where all things come and to where all things return. It is a powerful symbol of transformation. The cauldron is the void, the place where all things are reborn.  Witches use cauldrons to create everything from potions and brews, to burning herbs and incense for ritual, to scrying in its waters. In Irish mythology, Tir-Na-Nog, the Irish Land of the Dead or Otherworld, was presided over by a crone and her cauldron, to which all life returns to await rebirth.

This ancient cauldron has certainly done the Goddess’ bidding. It is obvious that she has seen many eons of creating magick and working transformative wonders. The stone is a unique one, a copper electroplated rose quartz. This is a rose quartz that has been transformed by using copper and running an electrical current through to create a dark blue, iridescent colour. The stone sits atop a triquetra.  An ancient Celtic symbol, the triquetra is considered one of the oldest; dating back to as early as 500 BC when it was used to symbolize the triple goddess (maiden-mother-crone). The symbol is often used to represent the 3 fundamental elements – air, water, and earth or the infinite cycle of life. It is also known as a rune of protection.

This cauldron and all details are hand crafted from sterling silver sheet. She stands 1 1/2 inches high and 2 inches wide. She hangs from an 18 inch, blackened, sterling silver chain. A sterling silver S clasp on the right cauldron handle offers a unique and easy closure. Gently move the bottom curve of the S to create an opening to slip in and out of the attached jump ring.
