Celtic Moon Shield Pendant

Since the beginning of time the moon has been a fundamentally influential presence on the people of Earth. Luna has been honoured and revered by likely every culture. The Celts created their calendar around the lunar cycles. The moon has been incorporated into art since the very first pre-historic images were carved into stone.

Astrologically, the moon represents our inner world, our emotions, our reactions, and our unconscious realm. Shadow work is the domain of luna. This is where the Warrioress enacts her most profound work. Courage and fortitude are required to delve into the darkened depths of the unknown and unacceptable aspects of self. Yet, this is the only way to experience the liberation and transformation that is on the other side. Excavating true authenticity and full self acceptance requires complete integration of all the parts of self.

This moon shield calls in the nurturing support of Luna to be a guide through the darkness, and to soothe when the work to contain the power of darkness seems overwhelming. The silvery light of the moon has a tendency to soften shadows, and shift perspective when we need it most. The shield is the embodiment of the balance of dark and light. We must embrace both to be whole. An understanding and acceptance of the duality is the cornerstone of peace. The moon in this shield is in quarter phase, yet the crescent itself is dark. Which is the dark and which is the light? Which is the moon and which is the shadow? Let this paradox whisper its secrets and wisdom to you. Herein lies the power. This shield is twice encircled, containing its power within. Notice the twisted branches that flank this shield. Two silver branches twist together representing the duality and balance. This shield contains within it the power to guide and protect while descending into your own very depths, walk through the underworld, and return transformed.

This pendant is complete handmade of sterling silver. I used a special silver dust fusion technique on the crescent moon to create the unique texture, as if this piece had been recently unearthed after spending untold years in the ground. The pendant measures 2” in diameter. The twisted branches are sterling silver and cast from actual branches. The chain is 19” with a 1.5” extension chain for versatility.
